Disadvantages :200 series stainless steel plates. Although these plates are non-magnetic when tested with magnets, they hardly control the sulfur and carbon content according to the national standard, and replace some or all nickel with manganese (and nitrogen) to produce austenitic stainless steel with lower nickel content. The disadvantage of this series material is that the 18% chromium content and the low nickel content cannot reach the balance and form ferrite. Therefore, the chromium content of 200 series stainless steel is reduced to 15%~16% and in some cases to 13%~14%. Its corrosion resistance cannot be compared with 304 and other similar steels. In addition, manganese and, in some cases, copper reduce the repassivation effect under acidic conditions common at corrosion sites in deposition areas and crevices. The failure rate of 200 series steel in these conditions is approximately 10-100 times that of 304 stainless steel. Also, the residual sulfur and carbon content in these steels is often not controlled during production, and the material cannot be traced back to the source, even when the material is recycled. Without the specification of CR-Mn steel, they can become a dangerous scrap mix, resulting in castings containing unexpectedly high manganese content, so the 200 series plates will show small brown spots when exposed to moisture in the air, and will rust over time.
