How to determine if your bathroom vanity is high quality

1. Check the construction status

Check to see if the dresser is fully assembled or ready to be assembled. Fully assembled vanities are often a better choice because they are factory-made and factory-tested for quality and durability, eliminating possible user error during the installation phase. Next, examine the drawer structure. While the sides or back of a dresser are usually made of thinner materials, the drawers should be relatively sturdy as they need to be able to support the weight of the items you place inside. If the drawer bottom is warped, wobbly, or looks unusually thin, it's probably not a high-quality dresser. Finally, evaluate the materials used in construction. Particleboard is a common (and cheap) building material that can be laminated to give it a wood-like effect, and historically it has been associated with a low-quality product. If you want something strong, durable and with a natural wood finish, look for solid wood or plywood with solid wood veneer.

2. Check the hardware

Hinges, doors, drawer pulls, and drawer slides are all key components that make your dresser function, and they should all be of high quality to ensure longevity and ease of use. Generally speaking, the hardware should be metal, not plastic, and should have sturdy fasteners to hold it in place.

①Choose slow-closing hinges to prevent noise when closing the door and excessive wear on the dresser.

② Check the drawer slides to make sure they open and close smoothly without any jamming or resistance.

③On a brand-new dresser, door and drawer pulls will never feel wobbly-although they may loosen over time, on an old dresser they may need to be tightened.

3 Check paint or surface treatment

The finish will be one of the biggest factors affecting the quality of your bathroom vanity, as it seals the wood or particleboard to prevent moisture. Fortunately, there are many great options to choose from. High-quality finishes include oil-based polyurethanes for natural wood finishes, varnishes or lacquers to seal the wood and oil-based paints to give you color and a sealed finish. In general, avoid latex-painted vanities. While they're not commonly found at retailers, if you buy a used dresser, you may see that some of the dressers' previous owners used latex wall paint to update the color. These vanities are prone to peeling, especially if the original topcoat was not properly prepared before refinishing.

4 faucets and counters

These two items may not come with your new vanity-you'll need to buy them separately-but they should still be a consideration, as there's no point in combining a stunning vanity with inferior counters or faucets . When it comes to faucets, it's usually best to choose a respected brand. Typically, larger brands offer better warranties and higher quality products, and when wear and tear takes its toll, you'll be able to easily find replacement parts for years to come. As for counters, there are many options such as laminate, stone or ceramic. Choose something that offers a built-in sink or the ability to easily install a quality sink, and choose something that can handle large amounts of moisture. Stone will be the most durable choice for bathrooms, but ceramic and laminate are also good options.
